WELCOME ALL PROSPECTIVE 4H MEMBERS! We do have limited resources so please contact me before showing up at a meeting to insure we can add you. We'll make every attempt to fit you in.
WHO CAN JOIN? The only restriction is an age limit. The 4H shooting sports member must be in third grade and be of the age 8 prior to Jan 1st of the current 4H year. (Note: this is different from the general 4H Program)
WHERE WILL WE MEET? We will shoot at the Issaquah Sportsmen’s Club. They have a covered roof and lights so we can shoot in the evenings. For directions please review their web site http://issaquahsportsmensclub.com/ 23600 S.E. Evans St, WA 98027
Even with the roof and lights this is still an outdoor venue so dress appropriately. Youth should wear warm tight fitting jackets when possible. The club has a warming area if you get cold. Restrooms with indoor pluming too! We also have permission to use the club house as a meeting room for those nights when we have projects or demonstrations to do.
WHAT DAY WILL WE MEET? Starting the first week of November we will be meeting on each Wednesdays of the month through to the last meeting which is the first Wed of August.
WHAT WILL WE DO? You can view the curriculum so you can see what neat stuff we’ll be looking at for each meeting. Look in the shared documents of the home page of this site. Some of the meetings will be working with your equipment but most will be actually shooting the bows. I’ll also try and get some guest speakers to discuss all things archery. There is an expectation that each of you will need to do a Poster and I highly encourage each of you to do a public demonstration/presentation. Archery is a great subject matter but your presentation can be about any item of interest to you. For you new members, we’ll explain all this on the first night. (but feel free to contact me)
WHAT WILL I NEED? There are several forms that are required for admittance into 4H. Please bring them with you if possible to your first meeting. Our club number is 927 The archery project code is DEBB.
Forms can be found at this location Assumption of Risk Medical Release Health Form Enrolment Form
Dues will be $35.00. 10 of which goes to 4H, 25 for TMA
I would also appreciate it if you can print out your own copy of the 4H Project book and the 11 steps. http://wa4hss.org/Shared%20Documents/em4426_4_2008.pdf
http://wa4hss.org/Shared%20Documents/Steps_Of_Shooting.doc EQUIPMENT You will not need equipment for the first year. (although bring it if you have it.) I will however ask that you purchase your own equipment should you decide to enroll for a second year. I have some Mathews Genesis bows and several recurve bows of varying sizes and draw weights, with those I have fiberglass arrows that you can use initially. I do expect each member to eventually purchase their own equipment. I will be happy to discuss those options with you and help in any way I can to get you setup with a system that works best for you. Looking forward to seeing you all again and here’s wishing you straight shooting!
For you new comers. 4H is one of the most outstanding youth development programs available. I believe you will be extremely happy you got involved. For more information about 4H in general you can find a great deal of information online at the King county 4h Site http://king.wsu.edu/4h/ And the state http://4h.wsu.edu/

General Information
|
Who can join? Youth, ages 8 and in third grade, through Senior in High School may participate in 4H shooting sports. Parents or other interested adults may join in an adult leader or assistant capacity, as long as they are a minimum of 21 years old.
The Flaming Arrows 4-H club will be starting up for another year and taking new members on September 26, 2011. Project meetings are once a week starting October 10th – 13th to May 21st - 24th (see Calendar on web site for complete schedule including holidays), where archery shooting skills and safety are taught. In addition, the club will meet on some Saturdays for club meetings and activities, see Calendar. Members will sign up for one of the nights. You will need to stay with that schedule through the year, unless you make prior arrangements. We encourage all archers to attend weekly. As we tend to fill our archery ranges, we request that you let the Range Master know when you will not be there. All correspondence is done through the web page and some through the email.
In an emergency, e-mail or phone calls will be made. Please keep us up to date on e-mail addresses and phone numbers. We have had to cancel due to weather or power outages, and have had difficulty in the past reaching everyone. We are sorry if you show up and archery is canceled.
Information for all: This year (2011) club fees will be $25.00 plus County Fee $20.00 at the start of the 4-H year. Total of $45.00. Break down of fees paid is: targets for the club ($5), insurance ($1), County Fees ($19), and archery supplies such as target butts, arrows, armguards, Tournaments etc for the club ($15), Club Leaders ($5), so your leaders can bring you the best program possible. If you are not familiar with 4-H please call the 4-H office at 337-7157, or visit http://kitsap.wsu.edu/index.htmIf you have more than 3 youth signing up in your family, the County Fees and insurance will remain at $60, with no additional charge per youth. County fee only needs to be paid once in any project, so if you are in Cats, Dogs and Archery you only pay once. The club fees will remain at $25 per youth. The club fees do not include the cost of making arrows or other projects. Those will be charged separately as needed. With the cost of the projects and the club fees, we anticipate the total cost to be about $2 to $3 per week of archery instruction. We will be filling out 4-H club paperwork and collecting fees during first club meeting October 22nd Saturday, time 5:00 pm location Eagles Nest Fairgrounds. Bring a parent. The youth will also elect club officers at the first club meeting. A separate e-mail will be sent out covering these elected positions. All project meetings are at the Kitsap County Fair grounds in the Archery barn (Cold in the winter but dry). Saturday meeting locations will be announced later. All projects (including arrows) will be on a pay as you make them basis. We will not collect at the beginning of the year, because the price is not known until supplies are purchased. The club has some bows and arrows that you can use. We recommend that you use the club's bows and equipment for awhile. If you have a bow that you want to use, bring it and have it inspected for safety. The club leader (Kim Petersen) can assist in properly sizing and purchasing a bow if the youth is interested. The bows take about 1 to 1-1/2 months to arrive.
Make checks to Flaming Arrows 4-H Club.
Youth will fall in one of the three age groups
Juniors 3rd-5th grade
Intermediates 6th-8th grade
Seniors 9th-12th grade

John Jensen is the leader. Requires NRA class to shoot. He is the NRA instructor for the Range.
We have been shooting every 2nd and 4th Saturday.
What we are going to do this year is have the youth join 4-H. We then have the kids pay $2.00 each Saturday they come and shoot. That pay's the club for targets and ammunition. I would like you to take the NRA Basic Rifle course that I teach. I'm not going to require it because I've not scheduled a class and probably won't until January. When we do the class it will cost $10.00 and you will receive a certificate of completion for the course. It will help the youth and assure me that everyone on the range knows the same basic safety principles and techniques for shooting a rifle.
I will also be teaching Shotgun and if you are interested in that as well let me know. The cost is a little more in that the kids will have to pay for the clay targets that we use and the shotgun shells.
Hope this information helps. I'll let you know as soon as possible when and what time we are shooting in November.
I hope you enjoy this sport.
John
$20.00 4-H county Fee paid to Flaming Arrows. County fee only needs to be paid once across 4-H projects.

Our Snohomish County 4-H Rifle program teaches firearm/range safety along with Olympic-style smallbore (.22) position rifle shooting
Most of our 4-H Rifle clubs use the CMP and NRA Qualification systems for keeping track of members’ skill levels. Our program is available to all kids between the ages of 8 and 19.
Right now, we have three rifle ranges in Snohomish County that participate in our County-wide 4-H riflery program. Use of club target rifles and facilities at these ranges is included with the shooting dues, which vary, depending on the club. The size of each club is limited to the available shooting lanes at each rifle range.
Shooting practice is weekly, usually October through May, with County 4-H matches once a month January through May. In June we have a County 4-H Rifle and Awards Picnic and in September, the Pacific Northwest Regional 4-H Shooting Match is at the Paul Bunyan Range near Puyallup.
If you are interested in finding out more about the different clubs, contact the leader of the group you would like to join.
The "Dizzy D's" 4H Shooting Club shoots at the Kenmore shooting range. Call John Grotte (360-863-8860) if you are interested in his group. There is sometimes a waiting list to join this group. Dizzy D’s 4-H shoots on Friday evenings, October through April.
"Sharpshooters 4H" shoots at "Sam's Gun Shop" in Everett on Saturday mornings, October through May. If you would like to find out about this group, call Joe Martin (360-568-7383).
Finally, the "Marysville Marauders 4H club" shoots at the Marysville Rifle Club near Warm Beach, north of Marysville. This group shoots on Tuesday nights. If you would like information about this club, contact Chuck Whipple (425-334-0211).
